This is the email I sent Scion describing my buying experience.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to recommend that you delist Bell Road Toyota as a Scion dealer.
I purchased my car w/GAP insurance ($600), a platinum service agreement (PSA) ($1100), & a tire/wheel program ($199) on May 12 of this year. I returned/cancelled the tire/wheel program about two weeks later & the GAP & PSA on June 7.
Originally Del Rockey (in the finance dept. at the dealer) told me I had to call Safe-Guard Products (the company offering the tire/wheel program) to cancel the program & get a refund. When I called, the representative on the phone told me I needed to speak to the dealer to return it. When I returned to meet with Mr. Rockey he then agreed to return the program for me.
I later cancelled the other two programs in a meeting with Don Scott Montgomery of the finance dept. He claimed the refund on the GAP insurance would be prorated, since it had been in effect for almost a month. Upon reading the terms of both agreements later, I was able to confirm that I was entitled to full refunds if I returned them within 30 days & had made no claims on them (not had the car serviced, etc.). Nonetheless, the refund I received on approximately July 22 was only $400. Bob Theroux (also of the finance dept.), who had sold me the programs, had claimed that I could cancel the GAP insurance after 3 years and receive a $240 refund.
I continued to wait fruitlessly for information about the PSA & tire/wheel program. Finally I called Tom Hollinbaugh, the dealer's customer relations mgr., on about Aug. 14, regarding the problems at hand. He managed to secure full refunds on all three programs for me. However, as the the tire/wheel refund was to come from the dealer as a check (not off the principal of my loan), they have delayed sending the check to me. Mr. Hollinbaugh told me the check would come in about 7-10 business days, but I am still waiting for it. The whole experience has been more work on my part than was warranted. I will never buy a car from, nor recommend, that dealer.
Sincerely,
Matthew Shepherdson
